Hector Pineda

Hector was born in La Paz, Honduras on March 7, 1959. In 1982, he trusted in Christ and determined to obey and serve in the mission field. In 1985, he graduated from the university in Honduras (UNAH) with a degree in civil engineering.  In 1988 Hector visited Valencia, Venezuela with a group of missionaries where they shared the gospel; and so were the beginnings of a Great Commission church in Venezuela. He was recognized a pastor in the Great Commission Latin America movement on June 29, 1990. Since that time he has served the church, teaching Biblical principles, tending to the spiritual needs of the members of the church, planting Biblical values in the community, raising and equipping leaders to serve Christ, and counseling the members of the church and the community. He has also served as a facilitator to the human resources department of businesses in Valencia as well as presenting motivational workshops. He has also aided in the formation of values and principles in schools and universities in the area. Hector is married to Alma Patricia Chavarria and is the father of 3 children: Patricia Alejandra, Hector David and Debora Sarai.

More than 26 years ago we left Honduras to serve the Lord in Venezuela.  By God’s grace we have had the privilege of helping Him establish a church in Valencia.  Today, Iglesia Gran Comisión Valencia is a strong church, filled with people who truly love the Lord and who are serving Him with their gifts and talents.  God has raised up Venezuelan leadership including Pastor Enzo Palumbo.

The last 15 years have been very difficult for Venezuela politically, socially and economically.  We currently have the highest inflation rate in the world at around 70%.  Shortages of all kinds, even food, have become common and the lack of medical supplies, including over the counter drugs, is at a critical level.  Along with this, crime and violence has skyrocketed.  Many in the church have been robbed and even assaulted and all live in constant stress and fear; we ourselves have not escaped this. This year, we were tied up and held at gunpoint in our home while all our possessions were taken.  With the current economy, many young people are left searching for work outside of the country including our own children.  We are also beginning to see signs that the attitude toward foreigners is changing.  The government denied our request for citizenship and when we reapplied for documents after they were stolen, our visas were only renewed for 1 year. We were also given an appointment to renew our driver’s licenses 2 years from now.

Through all this, we have been feeling the Lord’s leading that the time was near for us to serve Him in a new way.  Recently we were asked by the leadership of a sister church in Atlanta, Georgia to come and serve with them.  Originally planted in 2005, La Roca is reaching out to the more than 500,000 Latinos in the Atlanta area.  It is projected that 33% of the population will be Hispanic by the year 2050.  La Roca has a vision for this new generation of immigrants.  They want to tell them of God’s love and teach them to join in His mission.  They desire to see them become a strong foundation for the Church of the future.  God has blessed them and they have expanded to 3 locations.  They desire to plant another location in the southern area of the city and feel that our experience in church planting would be of great help to them.

Currently, La Roca is composed mainly of families with limited finances. They have offered to help provide the visas we will need and part of a salary.  But until the church grows to support us we need the Lord to provide around $3000/mo to be able to do this. God has been faithful and we trust Him for our future.

Will you prayerfully consider joining our support team? Will you partner with us in reaching the Hispanic population for Christ in Metro Atlanta?
